Anara Forrester

Originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan,  Anna Anara pursued a career in international sustainable development with the United Nations for over 15 years in 5 countries. S ince 2013 Anara and her family have settled in the UK, where she started a new career in promoting art and artists of Kazakhstan abroad.

Being a keen amateur artist for many years, Anara was fortunate to live near the Turvey Monastery, where Sister Esther runs iconography painting courses and support groups. She enjoys the challenges in Russian Orthodox and Byzantine styles of iconography that require artists to follow strict rules and principles, creating an image that is neither realistic nor abstract.

Anara is an active member of the British Association of Iconographers and has been a member of the BAI Steering Committee since 2017. She believes that working on images of saints, the icon painter not only learns about their story, but develops spiritual attachment to them on the way to the faith.
