Leila Moules

Leila has been an art therapist working in the NHS with children and families for many years but has recently changed roles and is working part time teaching at Chester University. Leila attended her first Icon course with Christopher Perrins in 2019 and prior to this had always been fascinated by iconography and mediaeval manuscripts.  Resonating with the ‘art as therapy’ theme she has been drawn to icons which heal, connect with The Divine. In lockdown St George was an inspiration.   Learning about his strength and the persecution that he endured because of his beliefs was a revelation. Was there any wonder that this Pretorian guard from the circa 300’s became patron  saint of numerous countries?

Leila has always been interested in Cosmology, particularly Ancient Egyptian. During  the second wave of the pandemic she felt inspired to copy the inside of a second century sarcophagus. The goddess Nut was painted on the floor of the original coffin to  embrace  the body and transport it to the afterlife. Among other things, such as mothers, the stars, and the sky, Nut is the goddess of the universe. The mythology imparts she swallows the sun, which travels through her body at night, to be reborn again in the morning.
