I have been painting icons since 1981 when I first started having lessons with Guillem Ramos Poqui. I was a professional teacher in a sixth form college in Birmingham but returned to to full time iconography around the turn of the millennium when I moved to Broadstairs in Kent with wife and two children.

I have undertaken many private and church commissions in the past twenty years and now teach iconography in Canterbury at The Saint Peter’s Centre For Sacred Arts based in St Peter’s Church a stones-throw from the Cathedral. I am particularly interested in and influenced by late and post Byzantine Iconography, particularly the work of the Cretan Masters such as Theophanes Strelitzas and Angelos Akotantos. My years of research into both Italo-Byzantine painting and Anglo-Byzantine Romanesque painting has also been a profound influence on my more recent work.

I enjoy taking groups of iconography students to see Byzantine Art in situ, in places like Venice, Rome, Palermo, Ravenna, Athens and Thessaloniki and hope to start doing this again as soon as it is possible.
