Sr Esther at work

Sister Esther is a member of the Benedictine Community at Turvey Abbey. She has been painting icons for some years and was originally taught the technique by Guillem Ramos-Poque and studied further under Sister Elizabeth, a full time experienced iconographer in the Order’s Monastery in Belgium. She has also attended several Icon courses organized by Aidan Hart.

Sister Esther runs Icon painting Courses at Turvey Abbey and elsewhere as well as abroad. She enjoys teaching this sacred art and is producing icons for individuals as well as for churches.

She is grateful to have the opportunity to have some time for icon painting among the various duties in her monastery.

Feeding of the Five Thousand

The icon of Feeding of the Five Thousand was inspired by a modern icon and is being used by CAFOD in their work for developing and building self sufficiency and livelihood for peoples in the developing world.

Sr. Esther’s Icon of the Trinity is one of her most recent works. It was a commission for for Sacred Heart and St. Francis Church, Frinton on Sea, Essex and was completed earlier this year at Turvey Abbey.
