The mystery and luminous beauty of ancient Byzantine icons drew me to attend Aidan Hart’s icon painting diploma course 2013-2016 with the Prince’s  School of Traditional Arts  (PSTA).

Formerly a conservation architect,  I now live and work as an artist in the Clyde Valley, Scotland, painting our endangered orchard habitat, old buildings and icons.

Icons:

Mandilion – Face Not Made with Hands    40cm x 31cm    £1,250
Blessed Virgin Mary    40cm x 31cm     £1,250
Nativity of the Lord    53cm x 42cm    £1,350
Archangel Michael  ( NFS)

The Mandilion and the Blessed Virgin icons are painted on braced tulip wood with kivotos as part of the diploma in icon painting with Aidan Hart at the PSTA. They are based on the early 13th century icons of the Grand Deesis of St Catherine’s  monastery, Sinai. They were painted as a pair but available separately.

Nativity of the Lord icon is painted on 1.5cm birch ply as part of the diploma in icon painting with Aidan Hart at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts. This joyous festal icon celebrates the words from the Festal Menaion Nativity Vespers: “What shall we offer thee O Christ, who for our sakes has appeared on earth as man? Every creature made by thee offers thee thanks, the angels offer thee a hymn, the heavens a star, the magi gifts the shepherds their wonder”.

Purchase of this icon will include the Nativity workbook showing preliminary studies which was part of the final Diploma exhibition.

A staged payment of all the icons is acceptable by arrangement.
