Elizabeth Wilkinson retired due mainly to health problems around three years ago. I learnt about 12 months ago that you are able to write an Icon with embroidery. On-line I found a lady in Russia teaching the embroidery stitches used in Russian Icons. I signed up for the course.

My love of icons grew from the age of,  I guess, 3 or 4 but only now can I attempt to do some. My training has been the last twelve months with this Icon embroidery master all online. This is my first one.  I am so pleased to find that I can combine my love for icons and embroidery; I am a new iconographer and only do them for my personal place.

I had an accident and found myself in awe of the skills of the doctors and COVID.  As St Luke is the doctor who wrote the gospel of St Luke and the Book of Acts, I felt it appropriate.

My icon is on a cotton material base using silk threads and crystals.  The stitches are those I learnt learnt on my course. This is a combination of Russian stitches on a Greek icon design with added crystals.

Icon:

Saint Luke Evangelist   25 x 20cm  (NFS)
