Fr Robert Gibbons

Fr Robert was  a Benedictine monk who transferred to the Byzantine Rite, Greek Catholic Melkites in 1998 ,and is an Associate Priest Oblate of the Monastery of Christ our Saviour Turvey. He entered St Michaels Abbey Farnborough in 1972 ordained in 1979 transferred to the Melkite Church in the UK in in 1998.

He trained in Iconography in his monastery.  When assisting in three monasteries in the USA  in the 80’s he wrote a number of icons now in various collections there. After many years in teaching and research at Heythrop, St Marys University Twickenham, and Oxford, he is returning to iconography in retirement.

He did his theological studies at Kent, Heythrop College London, and Cambridge (Trinity Hall).  His PhD (Heythrop) was on the theology of liturgical space.

He has written extensively and is a regular contributor for Reflections in Independent Catholic News.

This icon written for the Community (Religious of the Assumption) at Kensington in 1993, tempera on board.

Nativity 72.6 x 45 cm NFS
The Icon of the Nativity was originally written for St Michaels Abbey in 1983, but is now in the Convent of the Assumption Kensington Square, acrylic on board.

The Cross 76.2 x 76.2 cm NFS
The icon was written in 1992 for liturgical use especially on Good Friday. It is now in the Convent of the Assumption Kensington Square.
