Ros Hills was awarded a BFA at Surrey Institute of Art and Design University College, Farnham in 2001 and a Certificate of completion at The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in 2019.
Drawn to the inherent beauty and stillness of icons and the materials they are created with, she subsequently attended an icon writing course at Buckfast Abbey in Devon in 2007 and has been learning about and writing icons since then, working with several different experienced tutors who have supported her and encouraged her to continue along this ever more testing path.
She has worked to private commission. The icons exhibited here are written on gessoed wood boards using 23.5 carat gold leaf and painted with egg tempera made using egg yolk and dry pigment.
